Leeds V Wolves – Preview
By JOEL REED
Hungarian international Gabor Gyepes could make a surprise return to the Wolverhampton Wanderers squad for tomorrow’s game against Leeds United at Elland Road – following an incredible recovery from an ankle injury.
Gyepes, 25, who three weeks ago signed a six-month loan deal to bring him to Molineux from Ferencvaros, had suffered ankle ligament damage in training just days before Wolves’ home match against Crystal Palace and Molineux physiotherapists had issued a report stating that the central defender would be out for at least a three week period.
But today Wolves manager Glenn Hoddle revealed that Gyepes had made a miraculous recovery from his injury and had joined the Wolves first-team in training 12 days before schedule and the former England coach insisted that the former Molineux trialist had an outside chance of playing apart against Leeds.
Gyepes’ defensive team-mate Jody Craddock remains sidelined with the troublesome calf strain he picked up in the 63rd minute of the recent Crystal Palace clash and right-back Mark Clyde is still not fit enough to be considered.
Hoddle said: "Jody is improving, but I think the weekend will be too soon for him.
"But Gabor is in training again and he’s a bit ahead of Jody. Now we have to decide whether he is fit enough to be in the squad or not.
"We will see where he is after completing two days training but he might need a couple more days."
Hoddle is also confident that his international quartet of Kenny Miller, Rob Edwards, Jackie McNamara and Seyi George Olofinjana, will all be available for the Leeds game, meaning the man in the Molineux hot-seat could name an unchanged side from the team that beat Hull City 1-0 almost a week ago.
Leeds United boss Kevin Blackwell will be without influential midfielder Eirik Bakke, who picked up a hamstring injury while on international duty with Norway this week.
Hoddle today warned his players that they would have to be mentally prepared to cope with the intimidating atmosphere at Elland Road.
Hoddle added: "It's always tough going to Elland Road.
"There's pressure on them that is similar to us, their fans expect them to get back into the big time and that can be a burden or it can help you. We'll have to see tomorrow.
"But, we are in a positive frame of mind. We're going there in rich form but there can be no complacency at our end. We are going there to win the game and we must perform.
"They've got some good individuals and have got good team work as well. But, we have got to play the game shrewdly and play to our strengths."
