The Opposition’s View – Leeds
Wolves 24-7 interviewed Leeds United supporter Dave Clements of weareleeds.com, ahead of Saturday’s clash between Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers at Elland Road.
Wolves 24-7: Dave, could you tell us what Elland Road is like on a match day?
Dave Clements – www.weareleeds.com: In my opinion Elland Road is well past it’s sell by date, we had been told a rumour that our chairman Ken Bates was preparing to spend a few million pounds in the close season to upgrade the facilities but nothing materialised.
The stadium’s capacity is around 42.000, however we will be lucky to get anywhere near 30,000 this year because of poor pricing policy and supporter apathy.
The ground is relatively safe and with the stewards and police present I would be dumbfounded if there were any clashes between fans on Saturday.
Wolves 24-7: Where do you think Leeds will realistically finish this season in the Coca-Cola Championship League?
Dave Clements – www.weareleeds.com: I think a play-off place is well within our capabilities this season, but it is early on and it is hard to predict. Our main chance of a top-six finish will depend on whether we can avoid slipping up against teams from the bottom end of the table.
Wolves 24-7: What do you think of your manager Kevin Blackwell?
Dave Clements – www.weareleeds.com: Blackwell is a top bloke, but at times he looks clueless with his tactics - I am not his biggest fan.
Wolves 24-7: Who would you identify as your key player?
Dave Clements – www.weareleeds.com: Our key player is a fit Eirik Bakke, who will be a huge bonus in this league; he is possibly one of the top five midfielders outside the top-flight. I am disappointed he will miss this weekend’s match.
And if veteran Steve Stone could play in half our matches this season I would be very happy, the player has a clever head on those old shoulders.
Wolves 24-7: Which team do you fear most in the Coca-Cola Championship?
Dave Clements – www.weareleeds.com: Without a doubt it is Sheffield United.
When we face The Blades we just know that they are going to turn us over with very little fight every time.
Wolves 24-7: What do you predict will be the score for the Leeds V Wolves game?
Dave Clements – www.weareleeds.com: I will stick my head out and say it will end in a hard-fought 1-1 draw.
