Wolves vs. Crystal Palace

Tuesday 9th August 2005 7:45 PM, The Championship

Wolves V Crystal Palace – Preview

By JOEL REED

Wolverhampton Wanderers once again meet one of the bookmakers’ favourites for Premiership promotion on Tuesday night when they face Crystal Palace and their crown jewel, England international hit-man Andy Johnson at Molineux.

Wolves manager Glenn Hoddle is expected to name the same side which started in the goalless draw at promotion favourites Southampton’s St Mary’s Stadium last Saturday and Palace boss Iain Dowie will be desperate to land his first three points of the season, after he watched his side slump to a shock 2-1 defeat to Championship new boys Luton last weekend.

Wolves will be comforted by the fact that they haven’t lost a match at Molineux in 2005 and that they have now compiled a 19 match unbeaten streak, but Palace, who were relegated on the final day of the Premiership last season, will be hoping to not become victim 20.

Dowie will be boosted by the return of former Wolves striker Dougie Freedmen to his ranks, after the forward has finally shaken off a troublesome hamstring injury and Aki Riihilahti could feature after overcoming a calf strain, but defender Danny Granville isn’t match fit.

Palace striker Jon Macken will be hoping to hold off Freedmen to once again line-up with the prolific Johnson, who opened his scoring account again Luton with a well taken goal after 57 minutes, in attack.

Wolves look likely to field the same team which featured against Southampton, but central defender Jody Craddock, who is struggling with a calf injury, may feature if he manages to pass a late fitness test.

Expected Wolves Line-Up: Oakes, Naylor, Lescott, Edwards, McNamara, Ince, Kennedy, Ricketts, Cort, Miller, Seol.
